Rachel Carson:
A true witness for nature
Rachel Carson (1907-1964) was a writer, biologist, and Montgomery County, Maryland resident who is often regarded as the “Mother of the Modern Environmental Movement.” Her work celebrated the wonders of nature and challenged humankind’s often-shortsighted attempt to control it. Her landmark book, Silent Spring, raised concerns about the dangers of indiscriminate pesticide use and sparked a national environmental awakening. At Springsong, we take a wide and deep view of her rich story, philosophy, and impact.
